Brussels, 9 July 2024 – ENCATC announces the two shortlisted candidates running for the 2024 ENCATC Research Award on Cultural Policy and Cultural Management, the only international recognition for excellence in cultural policy and cultural management research. The winner will be revealed on the evening of 19 September in Lecce, Italy, during the 32th ENCATC Congress “Culture that matters: Interdisciplinary Approaches for Sustainable Futures”.
Two recent PhD recipients are shortlisted for the 2024 ENCATC Research Award on Cultural Policy and Cultural Management, the only international Award recognizing excellence in cultural policy and cultural management research. Having been selected by the Award’s international jury, these finalists are authors of important research that sheds light on contemporary cultural issues and challenges by analyzing them and offering policy solutions.
The winner will be chosen by the Award’s international jury from among the finalists: Jordi Sanjuán Belda for his PhD “Cultural and Creative Industries and the Well-Being of Regions” obtained from the University of Valencia, and João Oswaldo Leiva Filho for his PhD “Fifty years measuring cultural engagement: contributions, gaps and the future of survey” obtained from Goldsmiths, University of London.
ENCATC, the leading European network on cultural management and policy, will announce the winner of the 2024 ENCATC Research Award on 19 September in Lecce, Italy, at the official Ceremony being held during the 32th ENCATC Congress “Culture that matters: Interdisciplinary Approaches for Sustainable Futures” (18-20 September).

The winning PhD researcher will have his work published in the Book Series ENCATC Advances on Cultural Management and Policy, by international publishing house Routledge.
Launched in 2014, the ENCATC Award exists to stimulate academic research in the field of cultural policy and management, to explore contemporary issues at stake and possibly anticipate new cultural policy orientations through comparative and cross-cultural research. Moreover, it contributes to the process of creating an infrastructure, a network of researchers who are doing comparative research projects in cultural policy and management issues.
